Welcome to the Lexington Ski and Snowboard Club website. Join a group of individuals who love skiing and snowboarding. Our group provides a great way to socialize with others who share the same passion for winter sports. We welcome all people to come and join us for a meeting to experience the fun discussing the trips offered to resorts in the US and overseas, as well as activities offered right here in Lexington.
Don't miss this month's newsletter with information on our upcoming trips, the next monthly meeting, and new local and social activities!
The weather forecast looks perfect for the hike either on this Saturday May 9 or Monday May 11 at 9am (same hike both days), whichever is the most convenient. We'll meet to carpool at the Speedway Station 5360 Athens-Boonesboro Rd, near the soccer stadium and I-75 intersection. Flat Lick Falls in Gray Hawk, KY is flowing nicely, so we'll go there first. There's plenty of parking at the recreation area with restrooms (lacks hand soap). Additional hiking trails will be at Pinnacle Knob in Berea, driveway across the road from Forest Outreach Center/Pinnacles (FOC) location at 2047 Big Hill Rd/US 21. Then, the gravel parking lot is the first left. Recommend shoes/boots with good traction, snacks, water, insect repellant, and option of hiking poles.
Save the date with 2 options: Saturday May 9 or Monday May 11 at 9 am. With rain forecasted in the coming weeks hopefully the streams will be flowing at normal rate again. We will visit 2 waterfalls, McCammon Falls and Flat Lick Falls, in Gray Hawk, KY which is in Jackson County. They are about a 10-minute drive apart and both are rated easy, but the additional path going to the lower bottom of McCammon Falls is rated moderate. From the carpool meeting place at 9am at the Speedway Station, 5360 Richmond Rd and I-75 to McCammon Falls trailhead it's an hour and 10-minute drive. Then we'll drive to Flat Lick Falls Recreation Area and hike the 0.6-mile loop. There will be options of hiking additional miles in other parts of the area. Usually around a waterfall the conditions might be wet and slippery so it's best to wear shoes or boots with grip traction.
